What is a Tea Dance?

Probably every dance group, instructor and venue has their own ideas about what makes a great tea dance…so what happens at one of ours?

Primarily a Modern Jive group, some of us also enjoy other dance styles including Ballroom & Latin American. As a result our Tea Dances have evolved into a mixed format with around half the tracks being suitable for Modern Jive dancing and the others aimed at Ballroom & Latin, like Waltz, Quickstep and Cha Cha.

Normally held one Sunday afternoon per month from 2.30 – 5.30pm, we share a pre-determined track running order giving everyone the opportunity to decide when they might want to dance or perhaps just sit and watch!

You can dance as much or as little as you like. However, the emphasis is very much on having fun and joining in, so we usually also include a sequence or line dance segment taught by one of our qualified instructors before getting the chance to try our new skills to music!!

And then of course there is the cake, one of the many highlights of the afternoon!! A chance to stop for tea and a great selection of home-made offerings in the pleasant company of our fellow dancers.

The cost is currently £8 per person, with no need to book in advance. Everyone is welcome, whether or not you regularly dance at our weekly lessons or freestyles, either by yourself or as a group.

Tea Dances follow a pre-planned and printed play list so everyone can see which dances are coming up next.
Tea Dances are normally held at our comfortable Boughton venue, with plenty of space to show off your skills!!
