What is Modern Jive?

Modern Jive, also known as Leroc, one of the UK’s fastest growing and most popular partner dances is a dance style derived from swing, lindy hop, rock and roll, salsa and anything else that fits uplifting music, from the 1940s, to today’s latest hits.

Do I need to bring a partner?

Although Modern Jive is a ‘partner dance’, ie danced by two people together, you don’t have to bring a partner with you. The format of our evenings is designed so everyone is paired up with a partner to practice a move, then after a minute or two partners are changed so you get to practice and learn with a large number of different dancers. Once the lessons are over we then get to the ‘freestyle’ element of the evening where you can ask anyone for a dance (and anyone can ask you!) to practice what you have just learnt.

Do I need to come every week?

Although we would love to see you every week, we do realise that people have other comitments both at home and at work which means that they can’t be with us every week. As with all dance styles, the more you practice the quicker you will learn, so hopefully after 3 or 4 weeks you start to feel more confident and normally by the 10 – 12 week point most people feel ready to tackle the intermediate lessons.
